Sunday Projects

This Godiva coffee was sent to me by wifeofadairyman. There was a contest for naming the baby cow and my choice of "Daisy" was chosen. On a blustery day such as the one I am currently having I can think of no better way to begin than these muffins chased with chocolate laced truffle flavored coffee. The scent is permeating the house along with the blueberry streusel muffin I picked up from Starbucks.

For everything else...

...there's the Elise Bed.

Time is short. I had to squeeze in the painting project on a holiday weekend somewhere around midnight and it's hot outside. Unfortunately so hot I left the doors and windows closed and cranked the A/C. Bad fumes! In the end, the project came out beautifully. I'm extremely happy with each and every decision. Well, except the fumes which went away rather fast.

Happy Labor day! This weekend I've been having a ton of fun outside playing in the water. NOT! Actually, I've been working on a painting project prepping the bedroom with one of my favorite soothing colors. So much for no work on labor day but it's my only free time since I've been working long days. Besides, the weather here is howling with 30 knot winds and high humidity. The painting party is inside.

DIY Tile Repair

Since I'm on a roll with home improvements I thought the tile project should be tackled over the past weekend. Then, I'd be set with no chores for a while and get my weekends back. Winter in Florida is ripe for home improvement projects and I had a one more to finish. Two grout lines had cracks in them and the tiles felt loose. In order to repair the grout I used a screw driver to remove the damaged grout and the tiles easily came up. Lowe's had a small container of tile adhesive I placed on each one using a trowel to cover every inch. Then I placed the tile back down and carefully lined it up using my eyeballs. No spacers necessary for this small project.

My New Roof

Roof shingles

I'm happy with the new roof and the work was completed in 2 days. My back yard looks like a back yard again instead of the workbench with saws and cords. My dog is very happy to have her play area to romp in. Coda wandered the house with complete insouciance to the noise from the past 2 days.

Hard Hat Area

The sawdust is flying and it's never a dull moment around Casa Lauren's. It's rather exciting as the improvements move along. For instance, I had a light come on in my hallway from all the hammering I'd not had use of lately. In addition, a light bulb from a track light fell down on the counter and busted. So far, I have this ability to filter out a lot of noise which must come from years of working in an office environment. Though, while I was on a conference call the echo of hammers resonated through the phone lines, or so I was told.

Ladders, Tarps, and Lumber

At 7am this morning the crew ascended on my roof. Yesterday I had the fun finalizing the shingle color and driving around assessing the neighborhood choices. I had put so much thought into how to select the roofer and what goes in the construction that the color was the last thing on my mind. I mean, I'd like the most water repellent color choice. Is there an app for that? The fun was decided at 6pm after a grueling 4 hours of design to consider. I'm excited.
