Drain The Water Heater

Happy Saturday! This is the soup I took to lunch at work this week. The recipe is basically 2 cans of black beans, garlic, cilantro, scallions, chicken broth, chicken (or sausage will work even better if you dare eat sausage),cumin, lime juice, and when the soup cooks for 15 minutes you can use an immersion blender to puree some of the black beans. This recipe is both delicious and heart healthy.

Kayaking the Mangroves

Nature soothes my soul and on a warm 80 degree afternoon I'm feeling okay again. I haven't felt much like writing in my blog because my dog had to be put down. It's been a rough time and I'm trying to focus on positive things again. Coda would want me to do that and remember the good times. And though, I'm usually packing up my car with her in tow - she will always be in my heart.

The Codavator

Over the 4th of July Weekend we went to the beach and stayed at the condo in Jupiter. Coda used the elevator to get up and down the stairs so we didn't put any pressure on her neck. At first she kinda got real nervous and started shaking as the floor began to move. After a couple times she got over realizing all the fun was outside, not inside.

Coda's MRI

I checked on Coda from her MRI last night and she is resting comfortably. Coda was on an I.V and rather groggy and the Vet thought it was best to keep her overnight. They did allow me to bring her home cooking and visit for awhile. She didn't feel up to eating but she did perk up when she saw me.

Some Things in Life

have no answers. This sentence echoes in my head. My dad use to utter this phrase to his best friend Frank. They finished each others sentence when they reached out to one another for support. He was the writer in the family, I am more of a thinker. But I think this is something he was trying to tell me. Don't think too much. Don't hurt your heart and weigh it so heavily with choices in life that are out of your control. Enjoy the time you have to the fullest. Not knowing everything makes for more joyous occasions. It allows us to make decisions based on our desires, needs, and wants. Just ask someone who knows how to love someone else besides themselves. They want to ensure the others needs are met before their own. Parents deal with these decisions daily.

Do you respect the unknown mysteries in life? I try hard to understand them because it's my nature to explain what some call mysteries. Science and technology are ways I keep hope alive along with a bit of mystery. But dad was right as he usually was.

Some things in life... have no answers.

R & R

Don't hate me because I can't stand the mall. Black Friday shopping scares me. I do enjoy the deserted beaches and parks. My neighborhood feels empty since most people were up at 4am searching for parking spots near electronic stores. Maybe if I had family that lived for it like a bunch of sisters or something...but I don't.

To me, this day is reserved for long hikes in the redwoods or a run down the beach. If I were in the mountains, I'd be dusting off my snowboard and headed to the nearest fresh powder.

Whichever you prefer I hope you enjoy your day.

Painful Days

the better times

There are conversations in life I don't look forward too. Some are inevitable but not all. My little bundle of joy (my dog is my best friend) is getting further analysis on her blood work and the waiting is horrible. The vet is pretty sure it's a form of cancer based on previous blood work results. I'll treat her if I can but I don't want her in any pain.

Very sad time.

No Mall Traffic Here

Hi there! We have been hiking off calories since the weather here is sunny and cold. Coda is perfect for keeping track of all of us in the woods. If someone gets too far behind she will wait until they catch up or go back for them. She loves to attack the trail and sometimes she takes a few shortcuts on the corners.
