The Sandbox

Beach

Over the weekend I played outside quite a bit. Can you blame me? The warm day enticed me to shed my jacket, my shoes, and sip rum runners by the sea. When you live in paradise sometimes it's hard to imagine places like Boston with snow on the ground.

The Salt Lick

There is BBQ, and then there is The Salt Lick.

As I walked in the doors, my nose drifted towards the open pit BBQ stacked with every kind of meat you can imagine being smoked to perfection. Recipes here have been handed down since the Civil War and my expectations were high.

Legendary Stubb's

Stubb's

This is one of my favorite places in Austin, Texas. If you're not into music, Austin will convince you you should be. Stubb's has the right mix of BBQ along with some of the finest world class music. What I like about this town is you cannot put a label on the music. Stubb's hosts all types of bands and does not discriminate based on genre. This is my belief in music as well.

Welcome to Texas Hill Country

Today we decided to visit this gem of Travis County for a couple of reasons; proximity, hunger, and famous BBQ.

Out in the middle of nowhere is a special place called Hamilton Pool. Before we dipped in the swimming hole, we decided it would be best to feed our faces. I heard there was a great BBQ place called The Salt Lick which is a must visit if you enjoy eating meat of the smoky rubbed kind. Texas BBQ is not only food, it's an event. The Salt Lick is a friendly establishment that sneaks up on a driver quickly if not keeping a look out for the sign.

Mission BBQ

BBQ and biscuits

I'm looking for the best BBQ in Austin, TX. Just thinking about the many choices has me salivating. Along with my meat of choice I am always floored at how mouth watering the sides are, like the biscuits I had at Jim and Nick's in Atlanta. Please help me with the best places to indulge in by leaving a comment on tips for my visit to Austin. Other than airport layovers, I've never been to Texas before and I look forward to the experience.

The Best Burger in Town

Nature's Pride Bakery

The Foodbuzz Tastemaker program sent me an assortment of breads to try for the summer grilling season. The all natural buns and rolls were the perfect addition to my BBQ. Each loaf is 100% organic bread. The whole wheat bakery buns rocked my world with flavor and texture and when I toasted them slightly on the grill the scent was heaven. I grill out often and now I will go out of my way to select these buns.

Carmenere and BBQ

Carmenere

I dream in BBQ. With the summer cookout season in full swing, I wanted to share one of my top wines I like to drink with BBQ. If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that I seek out red wine from Spain and Argentina. Theses wines are often unknowns and I like trying new flavors. Argentinians eat a lot meat and make bold wines to stand up the these dishes.

The other item to keep on hand for the BBQ is your sauce. Make it right and it will be talked about for decades, standing on its own or supporting the wine being served.

Break Bread Together, Often

You know the kind of place where you visit and it feels like home? I went there last night; I recognized it right away. Walked right in the door and it knocked me over with the smell of roasting corn in the kitchen.
