The Mothership

My trip would not have been complete without a stop at one of my favorite markets. The headquarters of Whole Foods was equivalent to being at Disney for me. I was overwhelmed with the size, samples, and layout.

The parking situation felt similar to sharks circling potential prey for a spot. During lunchtime, I could easily find my way to the escalator into Whole Foods by following the masses.

Flying Home

Austin was fun but this girl needs to mosey on home. Austin has a small airport in the middle of nowhere. Lucky for me that happens to be only 9 miles from where I stayed. What is it about walking through the airport that stirs my heart. People come and go; faces are anxious with emotion. As I deal with being pulled aside and frisked by airport security I can't wait for it to be over.

The Salt Lick

There is BBQ, and then there is The Salt Lick.

As I walked in the doors, my nose drifted towards the open pit BBQ stacked with every kind of meat you can imagine being smoked to perfection. Recipes here have been handed down since the Civil War and my expectations were high.

Hike to Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve

I enjoy a hike and this was not a difficult one by any means. On the way back up the hill it can be more tiresome. This picturesque trail lead me down a quarter mile path to Hamilton Pool; conveniently beginning at the parking lot.

Legendary Stubb's

Stubb's

This is one of my favorite places in Austin, Texas. If you're not into music, Austin will convince you you should be. Stubb's has the right mix of BBQ along with some of the finest world class music. What I like about this town is you cannot put a label on the music. Stubb's hosts all types of bands and does not discriminate based on genre. This is my belief in music as well.

We have a situation over here. Allens Boots is legendary among shoppers looking for unique western wear with a no frills setting. With a price tag of $600 on these boots they are going back on the shelf for some lucky lady.

Welcome to Texas Hill Country

Today we decided to visit this gem of Travis County for a couple of reasons; proximity, hunger, and famous BBQ.

Out in the middle of nowhere is a special place called Hamilton Pool. Before we dipped in the swimming hole, we decided it would be best to feed our faces. I heard there was a great BBQ place called The Salt Lick which is a must visit if you enjoy eating meat of the smoky rubbed kind. Texas BBQ is not only food, it's an event. The Salt Lick is a friendly establishment that sneaks up on a driver quickly if not keeping a look out for the sign.

First Impressions of Austin

A few fun facts I observed my first hours in Austin:

1)Guitars are everywhere including baggage claim at the airport.

2)Mexican food is really good. Salsa's and guacamole are made table side.

3)Happy hour runs until 8pm

4)The locals here say, "Hola".

Mission BBQ

BBQ and biscuits

I'm looking for the best BBQ in Austin, TX. Just thinking about the many choices has me salivating. Along with my meat of choice I am always floored at how mouth watering the sides are, like the biscuits I had at Jim and Nick's in Atlanta. Please help me with the best places to indulge in by leaving a comment on tips for my visit to Austin. Other than airport layovers, I've never been to Texas before and I look forward to the experience.
