Day Off

The morning felt cool at 7am so I went for a run, mainly because the rain at night has been soaking the neighborhood and I've not run since Sunday. After that we hung out in the "gym" and by that I mean using free weights in the back bedroom.
Coda and I then had a cold bowl of yogurt with the toppings. Oats and flax topped with some kinda fruit is the best. Never boring, always good. On my day off I decided the market was a great idea so I coud gather more veggies for meals at work. It's a chore taking food in but I'm better off with the choices and I get to take longer lunches with gorgeous views of the water so I shouldn't complain. So, on this sweltering August day I decided to make leek and asparagus soup. Hot or cold it's perfect for a lunch item.

My coworker said leeks have too much sand in them to cook with for her liking. I had no clue what she was talking about. Has anyone experienced this? I've seen it in recipes but when I tried soaking for 20 minutes and still no sand in the bottom. Regularly I rinse my veggies before using and I'm sure I'd feel the grit if it was in there, right?

This recipe is simple and loaded with flavor using only leeks, asparagus, chicken or veggie broth (6 cups) and a splash of milk or cream. I even added a pinch of curry to the blend for an extra special touch.

Guaranteed to chase away the cold germs lingering by the water cooler.
