Grab Your Mallet
The anticipated Stone Crab season opened as of October 15. That's the date the crab traps were set and I'm seeing them in the markets now.
Fishermen take only the claws of Stone Crabs and return the live crab back to the water. Stone crabs can regenerate their claws the next time they molt which will be next summer. Poor things probably can't eat much though and struggle with the left. Well, now I feel really bad.
On a trip to the market last night I found these jumbo claws with a jumbo price. Of course, I bought them anyhow and gobbled up every tiny morsel with my crab fork.
