The Colors of Autumn

Fall officially began weeks ago; however, it may take some time to make its way near me. Images of yellow, burnt orange and red clay begin to stain the leaves with beauty.

Decorating for Halloween reminds me of trick-or-treating when I was a child. The leaves thick on the ground and my feet seemed to move piles along the way. The cape on my witch costume swept the street behind me. After making it home I sorted through the stash of sienna-colored candy. Eventually, my mom would put on a cup of tea or cider to warm my insides and distract me from eating the entire bag.

Every year I look forward to hiking up North among the kaleidoscope colors; it reminds me of home and hot cider waiting with my mom.
